Dr. Kumbla is board-certified by the American Board Of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. As a female, Indian-American plastic surgeon, she offers a unique perspective on plastic and reconstructive surgery and is an amazing addition to our team of talented surgeon at Astra Plastic Surgery at both our Alpharetta and Cumming locations.

Dr. Kumbla was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended the University of South Alabama, where she completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences. Shortly after, she was introduced to plastic and reconstructive surgery while studying at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout her education, she was inducted into the prestigious Gold Humanism honor society for her compassion in patient care, graduated summa cum laude, and was honored with the Dean’s award.

Following this education, Dr. Kumbla attended University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she completed 5 years of general surgery training. During this time, Dr. Kumbla not only learned about some of the most advanced surgical techniques, but also honed in on her high standard of patient care. She studied under renowned breast surgical oncologists and plastic and reconstructive surgeons who specialize in the treatment of complex reconstructive trauma patients. She was also inducted into the exclusive Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and published numerous publications in several plastic and reconstructive surgery journals.


Dr. Kumbla completed three additional years of rigorous subspecialty training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She trained under several prominent plastic and reconstructive surgeons performing complex craniofacial, hand, microsurgery, and aesthetic surgery, learning the comprehensive spectrum of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout this training, Dr. Kumbla also published over 10 articles and chapters in plastic and reconstructive surgery journals and textbooks.

She elected to complete an additional year of fellowship training at the largest aesthetic plastic surgery private practice in Texas, the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery. This fellowship program is endorsed by the American Society for Plastic Surgery, making it highly competitive. During this year she focused exclusively on learning the latest non-surgical and surgical aesthetic techniques under the mentorship of some of the leading aesthetic plastic surgeons in the country. Dr. Kumbla continued to publish her research in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and Clinics in Plastic Surgery, which is authored by some of the most recognized experts in the field.

Following her education and training, Dr. Kumbla returned to Georgia to serve the community where she was raised. Since then, Dr. Kumbla has co-authored breast reconstruction chapters in prestigious surgical textbooks such as Fischer’s Master of Surgery and Bland and Copeland’s: The Breast. Dr. Kumbla is well-known for the exceptional care she provides her patients while performing the latest surgical techniques.
